The Beechy Rail Trail patrol activity

5 intrepid scouts set off from Beech Forest, Vic. Height 1700ft. Along an old timber railline, through beautiful dense forests, moss covered trees, sun dappled tree ferns, snakes (!), green fields, gum tree plantations. Just a great experience through the Otways.
After 2.5hours of almost all coasting, we arrived at Gellibrand. Height 300ft. The scouts planned their trip, and organised the food and accommodation, whilst the adults provided transport and "arms length" observation. I must confess that work obligations required me to miss the 2nd day hill climbs, though it was no where as steep as the first day's hills. So I am told. ..
This metal artwork shows the gradients along the rail trail. They headed left from the highest point.
