TVCB

This is a photo taken with my friends at the TV Community Band concert. The Tri-valley Community Band is an ensemble consisting of hand selected musicians throughout PMEA Region V. The age range varies from 15-61. The only way to be accepted into this band is through invitation of the director. This fall, my brother and I were fortunate enough to receive this invite. Rehearsals were once a month for three hours at a local church. After only 6 ensemble rehearsals, the band holds a seasonal concert. If the music performed was short and about a level 3 out of possible 5, this would not be a problem. However, the director selects 10 musical selections that have a difficulty rating of 4/5, 5/5, and 5+. Also, the songs tend to be 4-8 minutes long each. This means that the group has to practice on their own. Fortunately, many of the TV Community Band members are aspiring, current, or former music teachers. There are also a handful of gifted high school musicians from the area; 7 to be exact. In this selfie, I’m with two of the high school members. The girl in the middle is a flute player who is first in the county and first in the district. The girl on the far right is first clarinet in the county and a district band qualifier. I am also first in the county, on alto saxophone. Community band gives girls like us an amazing opportunity to be part of an advanced musical ensemble.
