Fred & Andy

First Hotel, Mae Sot

We check out of our hotel and pick up our Myanmar visas at 10am.  After a leisurely breakfast we hop on a Songthew to the bus station for our 1pm bus to Mae Sot.

Andy hasn’t been feeling too good today.  He hasn’t slept well for the past few nights so we’re not sure if its just that of if he’s coming down with something.  Its going to be a long couple of days travelling so we hope its the former and he can get some sleep tonight.

The bus journey is pretty unremarkable and we arrive in Mae Sot at about 8pm and take motorbike taxis to our hotel.  The hotel is pretty grand and has ornate woodwork everywhere. We’d read about it on they internet but we don’t have time and are too tired to fully appreciate it so just take a few snaps.

The boys who check us in are very nice but don’t speak a word of English.  Freddie goes downstairs to try and see whether the road will be open travelling west after we cross the border to Myanmar tomorrow.  The road is a winding mountain road so traffic travels east one day, and west the next.  After lots of postulating, using a calendar a map and the guy on reception using a phone a friend, she’s pretty sure he says its going west tomorrow which is what we want and also what our internet research seemed to suggest.  We take a chance and book our Yangon hotel online as we know we will be arriving late.  We’ve looked into accommodation in Myanmar before and its expensive compared to Vietnam and Thailand … two to three times more for room prices!

We head to bed early, hoping Andy can get some sleep as we have an early start in the morning.
