The Old Work.

Another interest which V and I share is is visiting Roman remains, both here and abroad. We are members of the A.R.A. (look it up!) and this gives us the opportunity to visit many sites in England with free admission.

The photo shows The Old Work which is one of the largest freestanding pieces of masonry surviving from Roman Britain. It is at Wroxeter (Viroconium) which was the fourth largest Roman town in Britain. Those who are interested may recall a series on Channel 4 in 2010 (Rome Wasn't Built in a Day) when a Roman Town House was built on the site using only materials and techniques which the Romans would have had available, with slight cheating!
