Not just a lemon...

It might just look like a lemon on my doorstep. But it means so much more. We have lived in this house for over 4 years now and although they are very quiet and keep themselves to themselves, we have grown really fond of our neighbours Jane and John. We found out we were pregnant at the same time and have shared tips and advice, nursery recommendations, fashion blogs, collected each other's parcels and even passed our children over the garden fence!

We speak almost every day, even if it's just in passing. Our kitchen walls are next to each other and when I'm feeding Squidge they are often feeding their boys too and the noise is quite comforting.

When one of us needs something (garlic, cumin, nappies and lemons being the most often requested bizarelly), the other pops it on the doorstep. I can't tell you the number of recipies that have been saved by the arrival of a crucial, missing ingredient and the ping of a text to say it's there.

They even went through a phase of opening my wine for me when our corkscrew broke and Angus was at work. They definitely suspected I was alcoholic! No, just postnatal guys!

So sad that we will be saying goodbye in a few months. Am on a crusade to get them to move to Wilmslow too (might not be that crazy an idea as they are considering moving as well) but at the very least, I hope we remain friends and in touch.

Had a strange work day today. My company has been taken advantage of for the past year by an agency that works with a client - they've had a hefty mark-up on our work, leaving us out of pocket and taken credit for a lot of things we've done. They let the cat out of the bag themselves inadvertently in a meeting on Monday (doh) and today the client confirmed they are for the chop as a result. And we no longer have to deal with them directly. I may or may not have helped this process along a little. Karma can be beautiful.

Got to nursery tonight and they said Squidge might be poorly. She had bright red cheeks and a temperature. Something called "slapped cheek syndrome" is going round apparently. She seemed OK though considering. She ate lots when she got home too but does have a cough. Think it might have to be a quiet weekend.....
