Schlepperbande

Schlepper is the word most commonly used for tractor by farmers. There is also "Traktor" which is a bit formal. Common in Bavaria is "Bulldog" after the first real  tractor built 1921 by Lanz: a hot bulb, raw oil burning motor with the appearance of the dog of that name. In coastal regions of Germany the word would mean tug.
Bande means gang. Together they mean a group of modern day slave traders or more commonly in recent years the organisors of expensive cruises in the Med for fleeing victims of war and hunger.
Tochterpleach used a word this evening "Drückerkolonne" (Press columns) which is more the type I fell victim to yesterday.. Either singly but usually in groups (columns/gang) they will be dropped off from a bus to knock on the doors selling questionable goods and services notably in past times longterm (12/24 month) magazine & newspaper subscriptions.

Today did the chauffeur Flash service and on my way back saw MrB hammering down a field track. Managed to catch him up when he was forced to slow down (relative) in the village, cats & dogs fleeing for safety. They are lucky that he has a souped up illegal exhaust to make his narrow guage baby tractor sound like a 300HP "Furrow-Buster". Of course he didn't see me on his taíl until he was forced to stop at a junction - I hope his whimsy excuse to me for not having a rear view mirror will convince the police the next time he gets caught for speeding.

I am very jealous of this set up. It looks superb now - some will remember the Blip just after he had picked it up when it really did look tiny. He had been out in the forest again today - chainsaw etc in the container on the front loader.

I have been very good and almost held my New Years resolution to have a "Tractor Dry January". I was doing well until Nogbad posted his self-named bit of "tractor porn" a few days ago. Up till then Tochterpleach's recent tractor book present had kept me off the habit.

I will save the details of the advantages of MrB's air cooled engine for another day. There are disadvantages to this type of engine and to one's love life.
I will also Blip the house again another day in summer. I have been meaning to for years. Think it's my favourite in the village.
