A film to be recommended!

We went to see this film last night. Well worth seeing. It covers the period between 1914 -1918, so I was interested to check my copy of Vera Brittain’s autobiography and see that the book covers her life from 1900 to 1925. 

She was a strong forceful young woman at a time when women were expected to be educated for marriage and motherhood, not a career and independence.

The film is understandably quite harrowing at times and as a result there were several tear stained faces amongst the ladies leaving the cinema at the end.


The book has risen in importance (and place) in the pile of “books to be read” at home.
