Reflecting
Can you see the ice cream in this picture? How exciting is that - after a week of almost constant rain and cold today was bright and a little warmer.
My boy has had a completely football free weekend and was ready to bounce off the walls. He may be growing up but he still behaves like a puppy dog. After several of his plans with pals fell through I decided to take him out on a walk to exercise him. The carrot of cake and coffee was dangled and he obliged.
Soon enough it will just be him and I. Soon enough his sister will be gone and his father will be around less due to new work commitments. He is going to have to get used to talking Fifa, SPL, NFL, and the likes with me. We had a practice today -I think I failed. There is still time for me to get out of the corner and put on the cap of knowledge. I can learn.
He will miss them both but I shall remain his rock, his constant. I will continue my role of holding this family together, close and precious.
Today, as the whole of Edinburgh, it seemed, flocked into the city to see the Scottish Cup come to Tynecastle, as helicopters whirred above our heads, we sat outside the coffee shop, enjoying the reflections passing by the window and chatting about how we can best support and enjoy each other through this next phase of life's rich tapestry.
With cake by our side it should be pretty easy I think. He even says he is going to learn how to bake some. I like the sound of that.
(I also love the 70's feel of this - it looks like a photograph taken ages ago and the colours having fogged over and that orange haze that developed.)
