Feeling neighbourly
It is so strange what a difference a day makes. I slept pretty well, though was still turning over last Friday's conversation with my boss at times during the night.
Having said I would let things lie, I felt I had to get my side of the debate on record and so sent a detailed and, hopefully, fair email to the relevant parties. The response was suitably quick, equally measured and fair and so I believe things have largely settled and I feel as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders somewhat. I can't bear having things hanging over me. I feel on edge. Tackling things head on and being open is usually the best policy in my experience. I think that can be said of today.
I then cracked on with a lot of productive work and feel I'm making good progress with the current 'to do' list. A 'good' day at the office all told.
The neighbours, J and P, came over for dinner tonight. I made the main course, the neighbours brought the dim sum starter and delicious homemade panna cotta pudding and my lodger supplied the wine.
We've lived next door to each other for eight years and this is the very first time we've dined together! Shocking. I'm glad to have rectified that dreadful state of affairs :)
They arrived via the back garden (!) about 7.15pm and we had a wonderfully relaxing meal together. P is a virtuoso cellist (one of the best in the country) and regaled us with tales of his past trips around the world with various orchestras over the last thirty years and fist fights in the orchestra pit at The Lion King! Fascinating. We swapped notes on good local eateries (though I think their tastes are rather different to mine) and then lodger L popped over to theirs to look at a rotten bathroom floor and has somehow managed to offer to fix it for them while they're on hols in Mexico in a couple of weeks time! He just can't help himself. Still, it's his call!
I have a slightly poorly tummy tonight. I hope I haven't managed to poison my guests!
