Sonnet

I started scanning in Polaroids from a round-the-world trip in 1997 some time ago and last night I finished 'em off with the addition of 'Malaysia' and 'Singapore'. I then added another trip's worth with 'Mexico', 'Guatemala' and 'Belize' to this work in progress.

A massive life experience for  me in my late 20s and it's almost hard to believe that within the confines of my 35 litre rucksack I carried a Polaroid 600 camera all around with the world with me for six months along with a very minimal wardrobe and a wild assortment of tickets, leaflets, souvenirs and general travelling memorabilia. So, those plastic photo albums in the image here (purchased from the Muji store in Singapore just before flying home) are amongst some of the most precious things I have.

Also in the rucksack were some tapes that got purchased in San Francisco's Virgin store on Union Square and then got subsequently listened to in a variety of hire cars before being left with my friend Cathy in Bangkok. The Portishead and the Stereolab got listened to occasionally on a succession of stereos of variable quality but the other one got absolutely hammered no matter what...
