Oak

Spent most of the day in a workshop, sort of brainstorming with colleagues; it was quite enjoyable - at least we were thinking about maths. Then there was tea and cake for a colleague who's retiring (again!).

This tree caught my eye - it's right beside one of the side gates into the campus. There was something very arresting about the colour of the lichen/moss on its trunk, which hasn't really come through in the photo. I wanted to touch it, it appears so velvety, but didn't want to leave a hand-print. It's a young oak - well, probably about forty years old, but that's youthful in oak terms. Its little number plate identifies it as tree no 0689,
