Cumbrae and the Isle of Arran

Day off today so took a trip down to Largs this morning. It was sunny, but very cold and the terrain was really icy after all the snow in the last few days. It was worth walking up to Castle Hill to get some fabulous panoramic views up and down the Clyde coast.

This is a view from Castle Hill looking over to the Isle of Cumbrae and to the beautiful snow capped mountain range in the north of Arran.

Arran is often called "Scotland in Miniature" and this is certainly reflected in the landscape. The north of the island is dominated by rugged granite peaks, formed by a vast volcano active around 60 million years ago. The mountain range is sometimes called the Sleeping Warrior due to its distinctive profile seen from the mainland.

I have another curling match at Greenacres this evening. Last night we won 12-1.
