Hey baby it's cold outside.........
The culinary genius that is SBM was busy today.
I made these awesome mini quiches for lunch all week. They took forever. I hope they are worth it.
My favorite project of today was a blueberry pie. I froze about a gazillion wild Maine blueberries this summer. I was so excited. Blueberry pie has always been a challenge for me. I never get it right however, I keep trying. Today was attempt 12 and, not so much.
I needed more flour in it however it may jell up a bit as it cools. When I moved it over in the oven I pulled up a piece of the crust. That was the beginning of the end.
The juice ran out over the rim and all over the floor of the oven. As I opened the oven door, the smell of burnt sugar was a bit overwhelming. The smoke detector went off.
Now if the smoke detector goes off in a house with two people that do not hear well ( wow that was diplomatic), does it make noise? Heck yes.
I muted the button and it reset in a few minutes. My husband came down ( slept thru the first one and Dad continued to play solitaire in the back bedroom. ) Don asked about the pie. He said wait. ....I'm ready.....open the door and stood at the smoke detector at the ready. Even the cats slept through it. To them it symbolizes that "mom is cooking"
Anyway, it needed more sugar but with vanilla ice cream on it....all is not lost.
The super bowl is on and I have no interest, however bed early is a wonderful idea.
Oh and about 11 more inches of snow expected tomorrow. It's ok its Maine. We do lobster, potatoes and snow......my snow shovel is broken and a new one costs 57.00. My husband is getting a new handle put on it for 15. That's another Maine thing.
Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without.
So I am off. Goodnight to the north, and hope you are all having a G'day Downunder!
Oh these are birdhouses on the shed..
