Snow in the Valley

During the Second World War, RAF Spitfire and Hurricane pilots flying into Biggin Hill would fondly refer to the airfield as "Biggin-on-the-Bump". At around 600ft above sea level, the runway is visible from miles away as it's the highest point in the South East, and so it would loom out of the landscape to anyone flying in from mainland Europe across Dover and up through Kent. By all accounts, the sight of the runway cut into the top of our hill was a very welcome sight to those who made it back.

Because it's the highest spot around, and because of the shape of the land around it, photographing the 'bump' itself doesn't really do it justice unless you shoot it from the air, so I thought I'd do the next best thing and take a panorama from the end of the runway out across the valley below.

You can't quite see my house in this shot, but it's down there somewhere.
