Pureora Forest.

This trunk is the base of one of the many awesome enormous native trees in Pureora Forest Park. No photo can do justice to these amazing trees. Many are over 30 metres high and estimated to be 1000 years old ! The forest established some 1800 years ago after the Taupo crater erupted .The Park was established in 1978 after anti-logging protests by conservation activists.Thanks to these protests that we are able to see and be amazed by these wonderful  specimens .
