Lock Gates, Cardiff Bay Barrage.

There are three of these massive locks on the barrage. The tidal range on the outside of the locks can be as high as 14 metres, and the gates are constructed to a height of 16 metres. Each of the locks are designed to accommodate up to 10 average sized boats, and dependent on the number of boats in the lock, passage through each can take between 5 and 20 minutes. At low tide, each lock operation uses about 4 million litres of water to complete the transfer. More photos of the lock tomorrow!
