An Artist's Life

This Old House

This old house has come alive with greetings and laughter as we all helped each other carry canvases, bronzes and Pro-Panels (professional display walls) into its spacious rooms. We re-dusted and polished, cleaned the floors and spiffed up the bathroom. Later, at my house, we put together some of the hors d'oeuvres, finished a bit of printing and collapsed. We are ready to rock....tomorrow.

About the house....it is an atypical farmhouse in this timber-rich area because it's built of brick. The only brick houses of this era were catalog houses; ordered from suppliers such as Sears-Roebuck. The entire "kit" was delivered via railroad to a town and the pallets of bricks and timbers would be taken to the building site via horse-drawn wagons. Windows, doors, pipes, etc. were included (this house's bathroom was added later) Several timber Victorian in the area are catalog houses. I restored one and it was as plumb as the day it was built in 1886.
