Tongariro crossing

Today is all about M. Today M walked the Tongariro alpine crossing, considered NZs top one day walk. The walk is 20k, with 900 metres of climbing up to 6,000 feet on an active volcano. This is the second time M has tried this walk. The last time he could not complete it as the walk was closed due to an eruption!

In the photo, taken looking across Lake Taupo, Tongariro is one of those volcanoes you can see in the distance and the clouds are in actual fact steam. One of these mountains, Ngarahoe, the perfect shaped one, is Mount Doom in the Hobbit films.
