Eating NZ style
Farewell to Taupo this morning. We travelled north west past Hamilton up to a small place on the west coast called Raglan. We first travelled on back roads to a small, mainly Maori settlement called Kawhia (car fee ah) where we stopped for lunch and had M a mussel fritter sandwich and l had a whitebait fritter sandwich (NZ heaven), we sat by the water front and ate them before heading over the isthmus on an unsealed road for 35 kilometres to Raglan.
Two astonishing things on the small road, other than the scenery, a flock of wild peacocks flew right in front of the car and millions of butterflies (the windscreen was a mess).
On arrival we went for a long ramble along the beach and watched around 12 kite surfers.
Stopped and had fish (straight off the trawler), scallops and sweet potato chips for supper, with a v pleasant viognier
