Grey Heron

This huge Grey Heron has just landed on his normal sentry post in this photograph. I was concerned by his pinky red legs, he seemed fit and well but wondered how he got, what looks like paint marks on his legs? Someone said it looked more like an injury but I don't think so.
His feathers were in magnificent condition and I later witnessed him catching a huge fish.
