Life from city to village

Lands Lane

A quick trip into the city centre today for some essential items. Most of those around would have only noticed the shops - how many would look to consider the layout of the street, or the construction of the buildings? This is Lands Lane, coming down from the Headrow, and linked to Briggate by a series of arcades. The entrance to Thornton's Arcade is by the blue WiFi box.

Shopping streets are permanently changing. From the people walking through (this season appears to be dark trousers), to the shops themselves. BetFred is relatively new to the street, as is Poundland. There is also a new Burger joint, which has taken over the site vacated by Laura Ashley. And yet Clinkard's shoe shop has been there since the 1970's. Before that it was a TV shop. Its a street which certainly reflects the wider economic climate.
