Inside Wetherspoons Tunbridge Wells

One day a year the Opera House in Tunbridge Wells, now owned by Wetherspoons,  becomes an opera house again.  As you can see Wetherspoons have done a splendid job retaining the interior  . I have never been inside it as a pub although my sons have.  Wetherspoons were given permission to use the building as a pub provided they retained the opera house decor and allowed it to be used once a year for opera.  It is a huge treat. Today we saw Merry Opera perform The Barber of Seville.

More history - The domed building was constructed in 1902 with a baroque and neo- georgian interior. It became a cinema in the 1930s and a bingo hall in the 1960s. It was given Grade II listing in 1966. It became a pub in 1996.
