Checking the rigs

We made it up on top of the Long Mynd today.  The three public access roads up there had the snow gates closed but we were tipped off from the Club that you could get up on top via the very steep ascent from Asterton.  Steep it was, and a bit icy in places but Mr. T drove a blinder and we reached the summit without incident,  at worst, going over the edge or a burnt out clutch.

When we left home it was in very murky and foggy conditions but the afternoon gave way to bright blue skies and slightly elevated temperatures.  The views all around were magnificent;   lots of snow to be seen on the higher mountains;   a little flying was possible by a few enthusiastic glider pilots  and one or two hang gliders on the other side of the ridge.   The Club was called up at lunchtime by Air Ambulance who needed to investigate the area for a fallen climber perhaps and we saw the red helicopter circling for a long time trying to locate the casualty.  All flying from  the Mynd had to be curtailed for a little while until the ‘all clear’ came through.  Hope the casualty was successfully located and injuries were not too bad.

And that's this  weekend over already!
