World Heritage mills
It was that kind of dull fog that doesn't deserve the romantic name "mist". It was chilly and sort of damp. If there was any chance of the sun breaking through, it was in another part of the country.
I went out for lunch with my sister. There is a great pub, high over the enigmatic Derbyshire town of Belper, where they have a terrific menu, and have been discovered by Tripadvisor.
Tuesday lunchtime was quiet. There was one family, with two little ones in high chairs behaving beautifully and thoroughly enjoying being out for lunch. And there was us - we had the "large Atlantic cod" and chips, with mushy peas..... and had to share a dessert. The tiramisu is one of the best I've ever had, and I definitely include the disappointing one I tasted in Palermo.
Going back we drove past Strutt's Mill, and I spotted the waterfalls out of the corner of my eye (I was concentrating on the driving, honestly). My sister suggested I parked up and had a wander. It's just adjacent to "Belper's famous water gardens" as the sign read.
The Derwent Valley Mills are part of a World Heritage Site, and this spot is certainly not one of the most famous.
But I had to go for the sepia, old postcard effect to try and capture its drama.
