What day of the week is it?

AFTER POSTING THIS NOTICED SOMETHING OUT OF PLACE IN THE PHOTO - WONDER WHO WILL SPOT IT!

I am somewhat confused at the moment especially after Luna's night time jaunt on Monday. Last night collapsed very early and didn't manage any Bliping. Added to that I realised I had made a major mistake in my new Polaroid forced system for doing the daily rounds of journals and comments. One of the disciples I follow, posted on two days, two almost identical Blips which caused me to think I had done the rounds and was up to date. Only today discovered this wasn't the case. So, sorry to many, I will try again.

This Blip is not a repeat of Tractor Tuesday but I wish it had taken place yesterday. Early afternoon had to pop in to Ottobeuren to send off a parcel to Eire using Hermes who have their parcel shop in the petrol station. I was a bit surprised they didn't have any packing tape or a set of scales so had to go back in to town and cheekily check the parcels weight at the Post Office and get a roll of tape before returning to Hermes. Post/DHL are great for volume but very expensive if heavy and the package would have cost almost double.

But I did get this opportunity and snapped the county councils Unimog U400 getting tanked up for another night of salting. Last night was about -6°C and a repeat tonight with a good dose of fog thrown in. The yellow tanks on the side are for a 30% salt solution which the driver told me they spread together with the salt granulate, in the main hopper, so that there is an immediate effect on the road surface.

Seems the county council coffers are full. The last of their Unimog's I bliped in 2012 looked as if it would last a bit longer. Although I am sure Mercedes would like more farmers to use them, the Unimogs are almost only seen as council/highways vehicles. Sure the farmers wouldn't have problems with the 250,000€ price but the top speed of 90kmh is a bit fast for mowing and ploughing despite air cushioned, heated seats or air conditioning - I think the CD player can't handle the bumps and makes the yodelling Bavarian folk music sound as though you have a Banshee in the cab.

Then did a nice walk with the dogs in wonderful sunshine. We did quite a bit off the well trodden paths and it got very warm. Hard work.

In the evening a very heavy fog came down and although dark, Angie went out for a ride which she described as being one of the most frightening she has every had,

Have to mention, it was MrsB's birthday yesterday. I did the easy option of phoning but did so at the worst possible time so I was limited to the answeering machine. Angie walked over the fields in the dark clutching pressies. She was so shattered by the time she got to them that she simply handed over the presents and refused the offer of food and drink saying she had to fight her way home through the drifts. She went straight to bed when she got home.

Today I got a "thank you" email from MrsB. We missed:
Home made Solyanka (Soljanka)
Knuckle of Pork (Schweinshaxe)
Potato Salad (Kartofelsalat)
Pull apart breads (Zupfbrote)
Original Dutch Gouda as dessert!?
No mention of what mineral water was drunk but there was a 10 week old German rough haired pointer puppy.
Nothing for me all this foreign fatty food but am glad Angie didn't go in as she would not have come home - a) she has a stomach that can cope with anything and everything, even DDR/Russian soup. b) even without the food, the puppy would have kept her occupied for hours.

Differently, here on one's birthday you don't generally invite people over but simply prepare food & drink and then wait to see who turns up. If it's at a weekend you can expect it to start with coffee & cake in the afternoon and a light snack in the evening. Weekdays a light snack. The B's went overboard as they have a weeks holiday!

MrB's birthday soon ... roast wild raccoon dog? Happened to hear on the radio today that this animal is invading from the Russian/ex-Russian states and considered by many to be a menace. Never heard of it - a sort of dog, fox, raccoon mixture. I hope the other Russian invaders are sorted out today in Minsk. Caged in macho Russian bears are dangerous and while no fan of guns and hunting, appeasement as practised in 1938/9 is also no solution.
