Walking the Canals
A fairly short but interesting walk along the Union Canal towpath. What astonishing engineering, both at the time of the original construction of the two canals and then for the Millenium project which brought us the amazing Falkirk Wheel.
A highlight was spotting the glint of the Kelpies in the distance, from the path at the top of the Wheel: planning to walk there and bus back sometime soon.
Most noticeable comparison with all the walks we've done recently including Whitelee, Mugdock, Crieff and Auchinstarry; no one greeted us as they passed, no eye contact was offered and indeed they seemed surprised when we chirped up about "Lovely morning!" etc. It reminded me of the early 70s and the difference between Glasgow and Edinburgh, but walkers are usually a cheery bunch so it was very odd.
