Sun returning

I went for the drama shot in the end. A bit hackneyed I know. But after the flat grey high pressure weather we've had for days and days it was like a God returning ... a sense of wonder.

A few other shots of that sun and the garden in progress. A fire today to clear up the brash and rather hopefully burn out an old tree stump. The woodpiles have grown and the soil is great for digging at the moment. Rain just starting at 2.15.

I'm using a Cornish shovel. They are a bit heavier to work with but the long handle and sharp point to the blade takes less out of my back, if you see what I mean.

My saying for the day.

A bloke who I often see who gardens around abouts told me a client had just told him to put a fire out. He had lit it at 7am. The edict to extinguish from the irate owner came  'because it was too windy'.

He muttered about having to douse it with 60 gallons of water - 'it wasn't half going - and concluded by saying, 'I can't do right for doing wrong.' He said he was effing furious and wouldn't sleep tonight for thinking about it.

Who is the patron saint of poor old downtrodden jobbing gardeners I wonder? As they also say, 'I've been there and done that.'
