Confetti

Basel's Fasnacht is still over a week away but there are more and more signs that it's nearly carnival time. Confetti throwing is a tradition and I think there are pre-Fasnacht rehearsals/events happening over this weekend for participants. My walk home from work was significantly more colourful today.

Fasnacht Fact: Confetti (Räppli) is only allowed to be thrown by participants, not spectators (there's a difference). To distinguish between the two the confetti thrown by groups has to be of a single colour. That way if multicoloured confetti is thrown it is clear it has been picked up off the ground which is frowned upon. One of the many "rules" of this Swiss festival. I'm swotting up so I don't get in trouble!
