Tuning up

The local male Great Spotted Woodpecker is thinking springlike thoughts and starting to practice his tune. His drumming today was very stop start but I'm sure he'll soon build up to the full performance.

He starts on the wooden pole but moves to the plastic cover over the telephone cables to get a nice tone and some amplification.

He  didn't attract a mate or even the attentions of another competing male today but he did scare a few pigeons.  He was moved on by a pair of Jackdaws who couldn't stand the noise - Philistines !
