Barry Dock Offices and the statue of David Davies
This magnificent building was built in 1898 as the head office of Barry Docks and Railway Company. It was built by David Davies, the same man who was responsible for building Barry Docks. The reason why Davies built Barry Docks was because he and many others were fed up with the utter congestion of shipping coupled with high charges being imposed on the railways using Cardiff Docks. The office building is constructed from brick and Portland Stone and has 365 windows. The docks and railway started to fail after the effects of the first world war and the financial damage incurred during the 1926 general strike. These days, the offices are owned by the Vale of Glamorgan Council as their planning office.
