Samaria Gorge
Day 6
Samaria Gorge.
When we decided to go back to Crete, both Clare and I wanted to walk the Samaria Gorge. It is reputed to be the longest in Europe and with a distance of 16Km (11 miles) it was going to be a long day -
Out of bed at 0415 hrs - coach pick up at 0520hrs - Arrive at the start of the Gorge for 0800 - Finished walk at 1330hrs - laze on beach (inc another great swim) till 1645hrs - ferry at 1730hrs - coach trip back to Kolimbari for 2100hrs - eat then arrive back at villa for 2230hrs - knackered.
The walk itself was just fab with many highlights en-route. With it still being early in the season, the river running through the gorge was still a decent flow with many "bridges" still having to be used to cross - this is a pic of me heading over and looking forward to a rewarding swim in the sea at the end.
