Where did this come from?!

Turning out some old papers, I came across this box full of BMD family certificates. On its side it has "Atkinsons of Old Bond Street".  Being rather ignorant of these things and the illustration on the box certainly didn't help, I started some research.

In 1799 James Atkinson left the hills of Cumberland and arrived in London at Gerrard Street with pockets full of his home-made perfumes, together with some bear grease balm and beside him a faithful bear!
The balm became very popular with the social elite and the following year he produced some English eau-de-Cologne which really teased the noses of the rich and famous.  People clamoured after it, including the Tsarina of Russia, Napoleon, Nelson and the Duke of Wellington, and when George IV got hold of it he was bowled over and made Atkinson the Official Perfumer to the Royal Court of England!  Atkinsons premises were moved to Old Bond Street and this is where they remain over 200 years later!!  And the box was probably for soaps.

A story for a wet day!  A rather strange illustration too.
