Wynford Eagle
We took an old sofa and chair in the cattle box over the hills of West Dorset to my brother in his new home. He has now finished laying the floor. We had great difficulty lifting the furniture in through the front door as it was too narrow so in the end they had to be taken round the back and up the back stairs with much huffing and blowing. Phew, that was successful!
On the way back we passed through the hamlet of Wynford Eagle hidden in a steep valley and surrounded by sheep. The manor, now a farmhouse, was recorded in the Domesday Book as Wenfrot and as Wenfrod Egle in 1288. The name Wynford means white or bright stream in Celtic and Eagle has its origins in the ancient family of de l'Aigle or de l'Egle. The surrounding hills have ancient barrows and Roman remains of villas with mosaic floors (all lifted or covered up now). The photograph was taken from the back of T's truck as we were driving along so apologies for even more lack of skill!!
I have suddenly noticed the mole hills in the foreground!
Just for the record, we saw 6 fighter jets with missiles fly over this morning, no doubt in response to the recent Russian jets seen over Cornwall and Bournemouth. I know the RAF have been escorting Russian planes away.
