An Iron Age Hillfort, a windmill & 3 puddingstones

Despite the rain tipping down continuously I still ventured out into the Chilterns to have a "run" around Cholesbury; somewhere I have been wanting to visit for sometime.

First stop was the church of St Laurence - a small but beautifully formed flint building located within the confines of the Iron Age Hillfort....it was locked as expected but it had some lovely gargoyles. A quick look at the earthworks of the hillfort itself before dashing back to the car to dry off.

Stopped at the village hall with the intention of walking a short distance into another section of the earthworks but it was pelting down & my elbow & ankles were suffering somewhat so I decided against it. From here I drove across the common & there I saw the Puddingstones, which have been placed on the site of a Beacon Fire lit in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II 's Diamond Jubilee in June 2012. Interesting to see one - you could almost mistake it for concrete except it has large lumps of flint & big pebbles contained therein.

More about Puddingstones here :  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puddingstone_(rock)

From here I made a very quick stop at the Windmill then off to Hawridge for a nose around then back to ASDA via Wigginton & Tring.

Got all the shopping required then home just before 1600hrs.

Wet day but milder
