Night Lights

We don't usually land helicopters at night, for obvious reasons, but we still have to be ready for them just in case.
Only time I have seen a chopper land at night was back a few years when we had to medevac an injured man ashore and to be honest a medevac would be the only reason for a night landing.

There's all kinds of rules and regulations governing the set up and operation of a helideck. Believe it or not the diameter/ thickness of the yellow circle, the size/ spacing of the writing (and what's written), the colour of the paint and the amount/ colour of the lights are all strictly set out in the regulations and depend upon the size and load rating of the helideck.

Some helidecks have a net spread out over the top, to help the choppers wheels grip better, we don't have one as we have treads built into the helideck (the horizontal lines seen in the picture).
