Savannah, Georgia #1

This morning we packed up and moved out of Atlanta, arriving in Savannah at mid-day.  Lunch was in the most beautiful Art Nouveau decorated restaurant and then we had a very busy afternoon touring some of the different facilities for the university in various locations around town. It was overwhelming.  Like Atlanta, the facilities of SCAD for undergraduate and graduate courses in all aspects of visual arts is impressive. Our tour included seeing the facilities for Illustration, Sequential Art, Luxury and Fashion management, Fashion marketing and management, and then the student centre, a residential hall and student rooms, and the library.  Loved the library.  In a previous life it is was a large department store !  Then, what was for me, the highlight of the day, when we went to the elegant and beautiful building that houses what is called "fibre' that in reality is the weaving, dying, fabric making and using these resources to make things  centre - rooms full of hand looms and fabulous examples of student work. There was an open exhibition and the building was very crowded with enthusiastic observers and participants.  I was, momentarily, almost jealous of the students who were working here.  Fantastic stuff.  Several of us were tempted to jack in our jobs and come here to take an undergraduate degree in Visual Arts, or television/theatre/film production or the myriad of other courses offered in Atlanta and Savannah.  Oops. I am sounding like a SCAD representative....
Evening dinner was at the hotel (The Andaz for anyone who knows Savannah) and much chat about all that we have seen in this charming but cold weather town today.  The weather was just as bitterly cold as in Atlanta - everyone is talking about it.  More tours tomorrow.
