neptune

Neptune, the eighth and farthest planet from the Sun because Pluto is technically a dwarf planet, Neptune is the farthest planet away. Interestingly though, even taking Pluto into account, Neptune is sometimes the furthest planet because Pluto has a wide eliptical orbit that sometimes takes it closer to the sun than Neptune. The last time Neptune was further than Pluto was from 1979 to 1999, so basically everything you learned at school was technically wrong because Pluto was closer to the Sun than Neptune. It's right again now and will be for the next 200 years or so.

Neptune was the only planet in our solar system whose discovery was based on mathematical prediction.

Netptune is named after the Roman god of the sea.
