Doing The Right Thing
Tonight Joshua received his Scouting awards for the last year
All of 4th Falmouth Scouts walked the 'Coast-To-Coast this year, 36 miles in glutinous mud from the North Cornwall coast to the South Cornwall coast. Joshua completed the walk in 11hours 46 minutes over two days.
Two things separate Joshua from the rest of his Scout Troop;
He was the youngest to complete the walk
He was the only one to carry his rucksack the whole way without help.
Which brings us to the title of this 'Blip', Joshua, more than anything, desperately wants to be an Army Cadet, but when he is old enough in September he will not "enlist". In his own words he joined the Beavers, progressed through the Cubs to the Scouts and he will see it through and then join the Cadets - why - because "It is the right thing to do".
My Dad told me and I have tried to pass on to Joshua, "it's not always easy to do the right thing, especially when your on your own, you don't do it for applause or reward. You do the right thing because it is the right thing to do."
My son has a good moral compass and is growing into a fine young man and I am proud of him.
