Skeletons

Paladian and I go to this part of the Park very often, and we’ve always been struck by these remembrances of a past bush fire.

Eucalypts are very good at regenerating, and within a few days of a fire they tend to get back into leaf.

Which  makes us think that the fire that went through here years ago must have been very bad – we suspect the Ash Wednesday fire in February of 1980 which was horrendous –  and these skeletal remains will be there for many years to come.  The management philosophy is that they will be left as they provide important habitats for wildlife. The birds nest in holes and crevices, and insects make their home in the crumbling bark.
