Nakhon Phanom over the Mekong from Thekhet

We got the local bus from Vientiane to Thakhet today.  It was pretty crammed with boxes everywhere and a few people sitting on plastic seats in the aisle.  It did get quite hot but, overall, a better experience than the recent minivans.  It took 7 hours and we arrive at about 5pm.  After wandering for a while we choose our hotel.  We have a huge room with a balcony which is nice for the price.

We're still travelling pretty much along the route of the Mekong and Nakhon Phanom in Thailand is just over the River.  Its quite a picturesque little place with colonial buildings and the riverfront. 

We're almost out of money and the one ATM in the town centre isn't working.  We try to follow directions to find another but can't find it in the dark so pool our money and find a cheap Thai place for dinner which is actually very good.
