Fasnacht in Basel

Some love it and say these are the most beautiful days of the year, some hate it and simply go away. The carnival starts at 4 am on Monday morning with a procession of musicians walking with lanterns through the dark streets of the downtown. Later in the afternoon there is an official parade, afterwards little groups wander through the city until late into the night.
