View from a Walk
Today was warm, bright and sunny, so shortly after breakfast we picked up our cameras and went out for a walk. We walked up our local byway and along the top of the hill for about a mile, taking pictures, before turning back towards home. Mrs GOG saw some horses in a field and said there is my blip for today. I had found nothing so definitive and after going through my pictures a couple of times, decided upon this one as it shows the character of the land over which we often walk.
The footpath (technically this is a byway), at the bottom right bottom of the picture, is some 70 feet above the houses, which are about 1/3 of a mile away at the Southern end of our village. The lorries are on the M11 Motorway, beyond the houses and about 3/4 mile distant, while the horizon is some four miles away. The bare soil at the left edge of the picture is a part of the local chalk quarry, where all of the chalk has already been extracted. Most of the surrounding country is farmland, where various crops are growing, the bright yellow is rape, which is in flower, while the green crop in the foreground is probably barley, although, this early in its growth, I am by no means sure.
