Kotuku

The kotuku or white heron is an occasional visitor to our estuaries and are stunningly beautiful to see. This morning on my walk I saw not just one but two and they were close enough to the track to make it worthwhile trying to photograph them.

I took many photographs - fishing, stalking, flying and even joining a group of oyster catchers and ducks, but was never able to get both in the one shot. Although they were together, they kept a distance between them.

I decided to blip this one because I like the way it was back lit by the early morning sun. A shame I couldnt get any closer.
