Bicycles on Don Khong

Its an easy couple of hours bus ride to the jetty where we catch the boat to Don Kohng.  Its a tourist bus and we are the only ones who get off for the “big island” … all the others are going to the more popular Don Khone and Don Det.  We take a small boat across to the Island, wander up and down a bit then find a guest house … easy.

After some lunch we decide to hire bicycles to explore a little.  The island is 18km long and 8km wide at its widest so, even though its hot, we think we’ll be ok.  The road to the south looks shorter so we decide to go that way today.  There are some pretty villages that we cycle through but mostly its quite desolate and very open so very hot.  We end up back at our village where there is a football tournament going on.  We watch for a while then decide to take the road that cuts through to the other main village on the opposite side of the island.  By the time we get here we’ve been cycling for over 3 hours and are very hot and have sore rear ends.  We find a cafe and rest for an hour then back on the bikes to get back to our guest house.  Fred is Mr Jelly legs and has a rather tender posterior!
