Diary of an Edinburgher

Fur Coat Weather?

Another beautiful day - hold on! That's almost a week of it, barring a couple of haars. One could get used to this...

Off into town to visit My Club *ahem* with JR, who was most impressed. We had coffees, miniature pastries, and cold drinks. Could have had fruit and biscuits, but didn't want to be greedy. Read the papers, visited the be-flowered toilet, browsed blipfoto on the iPad available for my use and generally pretended we lived there. Or possibly it was the hotel we were staying in.

On the way, we walked behind a trio, possible going to a wedding. The man was very tall, dressed in a black suit, with a big black stetson hat. I blipped them from behind. When we came up to the them at the traffic lights, I saw him in his full glory. I would have loved to blip him. He was wearing a black waistcoat with a silver fob watch, he had big 'cowboy' boots on with a buckle and best of all - he had a huge grey walrus moustache! He was magnificent.

After our sojourn in My Club (oooh I like saying that) we wandered through the square where there was all sorts going on. A jazz band, tents and things happening in them. Crowds of folk having their lunch and enjoying the atmosphere. And to think that they only opened this park up a few years ago - it used to be locked!

We walked on down towards the Botanics, popping into a couple of Art Galleries that I haven't been in for ages. But unfortunately, the Art Fund is empty. We walked further down the hill, past lots of antique and curio shops. This one was full of fur coats! They can't be selling well in this weather. The two men sitting outside were still sitting there when we came back on the bus hours later. I hope they had sunscreen on.

Discovered a new wee cafe which had great sandwiches and played nice, quiet, peaceful classical music. See! I'm not totally against muzak. Just the loud, screechy twangy kind.

The Botanics was mobbed. What a great place for families. Missed a great blip of two young men walking along holding hands in the dappled light of trees. One chap was very tall, and the other was quite short. I would have blipped a back view. It was sweet.

All in all, a lovely day. It really makes you appreciate Edinburgh, all the parks and nice places that are accessible to all. Having been in Glasgow this week on a very hot day, you realise that there aren't any green spaces in the city centre, but Edinburgh is full of them. And we won't mention the tr***!
