Pretty pink dragon fly

This morning we decide our bottoms have recovered enough to hire bicycles again … this island isn’t so big so surely it will be fine.  It may not be large but it sure is bumpy!  We bump our way around the whole island looking for the beach but end up back at our village.  Eventually we find it down a very bumpy downhill path.  Its like mountain biking on shopping bikes!

We take a dip in the slightly disappointingly warm Mekong but it is refreshing.  Its a beautiful spot and there are loads of these pretty pink dragon flies around.

The local fisherman do boat trips from here to see the small group of Irrawaddy dolphins that live just up the river.  We negotiate a price with two girls from the Netherlands and off we go.  We had been worried about it being overcrowded but there are only three other small boats in the large area with between two to four people in each.  We spot the dolphins almost at once and they play around us but, unfortunately, don’t come really close to the boat.  We are on the river between Laos and Cambodia and the dolphins remain firmly in Cambodian waters where we can’t venture apparently.  We manage to see them quite a few times though so we are happy and are treated to a beautiful sunset on the boat ride back to the beach.
