Burning bush
An early start for a morning cruise on the Katherine River and through Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Even at 8am it was beginning to get warm, but the scenery on our boat trip was stunning.
After lunch in Pine Creek, it was time to make our way back to Darwin. Along the way, though, we noticed some forest fires - perhaps more properly called bush fires - some of which had started naturally and some by deliberate and controlled burning. We were assured that the park rangers were on top of the situation and, as long as the fires didn't get out of control, regular burning was good for the land by destroying some of the dead vegetation - this was spring in Australia - and thus allowing new growth to begin.
