Mansard roof
The mansard roof is a common architectural style in the neighbourhood. Over the winter, snow clings to the sides of these roofs until it can no longer hold on, at which points it violently and loudly crashes to the ground. I would not want to be standing underneath.
The stone on this house is also very typical of the neighbourhood. I like the character it brings to the homes.
There are two other typical but distinctly non-architectural features of this home. A temporary structure has been placed to cover the main portico and protect it from snow. A much larger tempo shed covers the driveway in front of the attached garage on the right. Although these tempo sheds are very, very ugly, almost everyone has one, as they are extremely useful and practical for keeping snow off the driveways and cars. Fortunately, these sheds that started to appear in late October will be removed in the spring.
