Visiting hours.
Mum and I spent most of the day either visiting dad at the hospital or in that limbo time in between when there's not enough time to go home but too much time to do anything else!
During our afternoon visit dad had clearly been given some really good drugs and was all cheerful and chatty. In fact he didn't stop talking for the 2 hours we were there and also seemed to have gotten to know everyone else of the ward and imparted the wealth of his knowledge and experience on them too (I dread to think). I now know far too much about his bodily functions, having been told several times with increasing detail.. And listen to him tell both my sister then my brother on the phone! But he was out of bed, had seen the physio that morning, done all the exercises and managed to get to the loo a couple of times on his own with just his sticks which is great. He was convinced that he'd be out and back at home tomorrow, no problem.
However when we were back in the evening it was clear that he'd totally exhausted himself and was having much more difficulty. (He'd also been getting into trouble with the nurses by trying to advise them on the best course of action for one of the other patients!). He's still convinced he'll be home tomorrow though and knowing how stubborn dad is he'll probably convince the staff too! It's a bit worrying though because although he'll have to prove that he can walk up and down 4 steps we had an awful lot more than that at home. The house is built on a slope so it has 3 levels, with the sitting room on top, the bedrooms on the bottom and the loo in the middle - so wherever he is he'll have to go up or down stairs to reach the toilet. So far he's only had to go a few yards on a flat surface and that was hard enough.
Anyway we'll see what happens tomorrow. Right now he's most concerned about seeing the rugby.
