Dyke Marsh
- Alexandria, VA
I got up early this morning to beat the tourists and headed to Dyke Marsh which is about 5 miles south of Washington, DC. I hiked the park which is about 1.5 miles round trip and got lots of great photographs. Other than 2 people walking their dogs, there was no one but me, the water, the trees, and birds - perfect...
I got home at 9 and found out that Maggie (my Toy Fox Terrier) had just chased a squirrel up a tree - As it landed on the lower branch, she pulled it off. Within seconds, the squirrel was on Maggie's back and grabbing at her mouth. Fortunately the squirrel took off. Maggie was left with a scraped chin, bleeding gums, and a little cut on her cheek. Worried about disease and rabies, we took Maggie to the emergency veterinary hospital for a checkup, a rabies booster shot, and antibiotics. The doctors said that there should be nothing to worry about but to keep an eye out in case any of her wounds show signs of infection.
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
